Despite the widespread belief that the Nazis left detailed written records of everything, they are also well-known among scholars for covering up their crimes by destroying evidence. This has led to forgetting and - even worse - Holocaust denial and distortion. But what role can archaeology play in uncovering new evidence? This session reveals the work of conflict archaeologists and the work they have done in uncovering Nazi crimes, proving the truth of the Holocaust, and revealing that which has been denied.
ICE Archaeologist Dr Gilly Carr will be talking to us about her work and that of colleagues. She publishes in the fields of Conflict Archaeology, Holocaust studies, heritage studies and history and is the author of 8 monographs. She is also a UK delegate to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
